Why I'm Running

District 4 is a hardworking, caring community that values family and neighbors. It will take all of us working together to resolve the challenges facing rural Whatcom County.

The Farmlands District needs someone on Council who can build a stronger and more inclusive Whatcom County--one with shared prosperity and opportunity for all regardless of your income, race, or ZIP code.

I’ve spent over 30 years evaluating and measuring government performance at the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) and in county government in Washington State. I know how county government and budgets work and how to deliver efficient, effective services for Whatcom County.

Rural Whatcom County is changing.  How we address the challenges facing the Farmlands District will define Whatcom County for future generations.  These challenges include:

  • Resolving our watershed resource challenges for farmers, fish, and residential development;

  • Finding solutions to lower housing and childcare costs and assist those experiencing homelessness;

  • Finding more options for those needing mental health and drug treatment and diverting those who need that help from the Whatcom County jail; and

  • Supporting berry and dairy farmers so they can pass their livelihood on to future generations.

These are complex problems.  Finding solutions to them requires experience; strong leadership, creative solutions, and innovative ideas.
